Elgiloy® Superalloy Springs
Cobalt-Chromium-Nickel superalloy springs (UNS R30003 / Phynox / AMS 5833) engineered for ultimate mechanical strength, corrosion immunity, and biomedical reliability.
Elgiloy® Superalloy Spring Overview
Elgiloy® (UNS R30003, also known internationally as Phynox / ISO 5832-7 / AMS 5833) is a non-magnetic cobalt-chromium-nickel-molybdenum superalloy engineered specifically to satisfy extreme combined requirements for mechanical strength, fatigue endurance, and chemical inertness. Following precision cold working and precipitation heat treatment, Elgiloy achieves extraordinary tensile strength exceeding 2,000 MPa while maintaining outstanding ductility and corrosion resistance against sour gas, marine saltwater, and bodily fluids. TOSTA manufactures custom Elgiloy compression, extension, wave, and power springs for critical oilfield downhole tools, aerospace turbomachinery, defense guidance, and implantable medical devices.
Key Engineering Characteristics of Elgiloy®
Ultra-High Tensile Strength
Exceeds standard spring steels by more than 30%, permitting substantial component miniaturization without compromising mechanical load capacity.
Broad-Spectrum Elastic Stability
Maintains consistent spring deflection and rate across severe thermal swings from cryogenic environments up to 450°C (842°F).
Extreme Corrosion Resistance
Virtually impervious to seawater pitting, crevice attack, sour gas (H2S), hydrochloric acid, and industrial chemical solvents.
Thermal Creep Resistance
Maintains outstanding resistance to thermal stress relaxation and load loss under high continuous mechanical preload.
Dynamic Fatigue Endurance
Refined cobalt-base microcrystalline structure prevents early micro-fissuring and dislocation pileup under multi-million dynamic cycles.
Non-Magnetic & Biocompatible
Completely non-ferromagnetic and biologically inert, certified safe for cardiovascular implants, surgical instruments, and MRI environments.
